June 2009 Fishing Report

Hello from Jim Brungardt, Fishing Coordinator, here at 3 Creek Ranch. I’ve been walking the creeks regularly for the past couple weeks and can report that the fish have started to arrive. Normally, the first push of fish is sometime in mid-April and then a second wave usually shows up in mid-May. So far, it appears we have slightly more fish in the creeks for this time of year. I expect the big push to begin early June. Normally, the early-season fishing is somewhat unpredictable due to fluctuating water levels and inconsistent hatches—but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some good fishing. By mid-June the hatches are more predictable with higher water levels, and that’s when the fishing can really start to pick up. We’ll see midges, baetis and PMDs, but the most exciting fishing will be during the Green Drake hatch. The relatively large mayflies pile off in huge numbers, and when they do, the fish lose all fear and the dry fly-fishing can be flat-out amazing. This hatch is often inconsistent, but if you’re one of the lucky ones who hits it just right, it could be a very memorable day.

Remember, every homeowner can book up to two sessions per season on Spring and/or Cody Creek up to 30 days ahead—these two bookings must be at least 30 days apart. All other bookings can be made up to 3 days ahead. Please call or email me with any questions you may have. If you need help setting up any other fishing-related activities, let me know. I have a very good working relationship with several of the best outfitters in the valley and together we will do our best to see that you have a fun adventure. Options include floating the Snake, South Fork or Green, to an awesome day on a couple of pieces of unbelievable private water, to loading up your daypack and hoofing it up one of the smaller tributaries in the valley. The list of options is long…the fishing season not long enough. Let’s go fishing!
